The Big "R" of the New Year

Why do we focus on New Year's Resolutions every January 1st?  What is it that keeps us moving toward that big "R" word Resolution?  We hold on to the hope that something in us, about us or around us will change -- for the better.  We hold on to the hope that there is something more , that there must be something greater beyond what we are experiencing or enduring at the present moment. We possess that ever present hope for positive change.  Maybe you've already scheduled a new haircut for 2014, or maybe we are expecting a new little one in 2014, or maybe this time of year means a clean slate of sorts for you. Whatever "new" prospect you have your eyes on for 2014, let us not forget what Paul resolved to do and not as part of his New Year's Resolution but part of his life in Christ.  In Philippians 3:8-10 Paul says, Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the
