Feeling At Loose Ends

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Mixed Feelings. I know God loves me but it doesn't feel like it. I don't feel like I'm a Christian. I don't feel like I measure up, it's never enough. God feels so far away. Feelings, like it or not, are part of our daily routine. There is no escaping their reach. Whether you experience pain or pleasure, anger or peace, joy or sorrow, feelings are an integral part of our life's experiences. We know God loves us because of what He tells us in His Word; we know He is near but our feelings often tell us otherwise.

Meditating and Dwelling. When it feels like God is far away, what can we do? One thing that we can actively pursue with fervor is the Word of God and let the word of Christ dwell within us. Looking at a specific Scripture passage or verse and thinking about the Scripture, praying about the Scripture, and asking the Lord to teach us from His Word is time we cannot afford to forfeit. When we spend time meditating on the word of Christ our minds are renewed. (Rom 12:2) Suddenly, the truth of Christ begins to speak into our lives irrespective of our feelings. Our feelings often betray us and even 'lie' to us.

The Melody Within. So we ask ourselves...is my heart singing today? Is there a melody within that is the result of time spent letting the word of Christ richly dwell in my mind and heart? The melody we have because of Christ is beyond compare and is not dependent upon our feelings. When Christ gives us His melody it is not up for debate. His Word remains true and His love is unconditional.

The melody within our hearts is the Word of Christ working out in our lives!

Close Calls

For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the Lord our God whenever we call on Him? Deuteronomy 4:7 Sound of the fury or two terriers. There was a time when we had two terriers who were not always fond of each other. Though they were small, they were feisty. I was walking through the kitchen one day when the one terrier upon seeing the other, decided that this was her time to shine and leave her mark. The pearly whites of her teeth began to gleam as she lifted her lip in utter disdain and latched on to her "companion" and would not let go. The usual verbal threats masked in the growling and snarling were not part of this fight; however, the sheer determination to defeat the opponent and win were certain. To say that I was concerned was an understatement. After quite a while of trying to pry the dogs apart and loosen the clenched teeth without success, I finally blurted out, "Jesus, help us!" It was at this exact moment that the one d

Common Ground: The Road Less Traveled

The Presence of God.  Ruth and Naomi found themselves in very trying circumstances after each suffered the loss of a husband and the inescapable grief that accompanies death. Scripture gives us a snapshot into their lives and we get a glimpse of the strong bond of friendship that took place between Ruth and Naomi. Was it the deep sense of   grief that brought these two women together in a way they had never experienced before? Perhaps these women were drawn to each other because they knew they were “alone” in the world.  More importantly, the presence of God is evident by Ruth's response to her mother-in-law.  Ruth reminds us and reminded Naomi of God's presence. The presence of God is the bond that unites our hearts as brothers and sisters in Christ. The Road Less Traveled photo credit:  B Gilmour.  via  photopin   cc Mutual Commitment. Naomi urged Ruth to go home to her mother in Moab hoping that Ruth would find another husband. Ruth refused to leave Naom
